There are so many questions people like to know about this "hobby" that no one list can answer eveything, However if you have a question please e-mail me and I shall hope to find out the answer
What is DDR? DDR (aka Dance Dance Revolution) is the big range of Kanomi arcade machines (*See picture above*) and line of Playstation (also Dreamcast and Gameboy) games that require you to physically dance (or push buttons) as the arrows scroll up on the screen.
What is StepMania? Stepmania is a program which "acts" like a DDR machine, After installing you have NO music avialable but with the tutorial you can turn your computer into your very own DDR machine containing ALL the arcade songs and moves for each and every arcade version
Is DDR called Dancing Stage Euromix then or DDR Extreme or what have you There are many different editions of the DDR Machines with (nearlly) completely different songs & voiceovers... UK users like myself will more than likely find a Euromix machine lying around (*mumbles*) that comprises of all cheeasy european hits and very few Japanese songs.
What are DWI files? Stepmania reads theese "DWI" files to find out what moves to do to the music and list info like lyrics, Album art and other misc. Info
Where do I get songs for StepMania Into the muddy waters we go!... Songs that are on DDR are all copyrighted to their respective Japenese copyright holders, So to use the songs in StepMania you must own the original songs (*Yawns*)... You can get hold of them on a few sites and IRC servers.. but your not supposed to unless you own the original CD's (*Just think of it as downloading the new coldplay album in MP3 format*)
So copyright reasons are why there are so few sites offering StepMania files? Sort of, but not quite, not only are there social legal & moral ramifactions on passing around StepMania songs but also down to the sheer size. Look at it this way a ZIP file of Dance Dance Revolution Extreme can take over a hundred mb's so if you had 36 visitors in an hour hoping to download a hundred meg you'd need not only a dam fast connection but a lot of money to provide that kind of hosting for that amount of demand.
Once someone as to wispers that there's a bit of highly sought after DDR gold lying around hundreds of people log in all after thoose files...If you have all DDR 1-8 versions that's over 500Mb's!! and once someone starts downloading from a website..they dont want to stop
